Reading Construction Documents

Designed to quickly build confidence, this two-part course covers the fundamentals of reading and understanding construction documents.

Participants will learn how information is organized across a drawing set and how plans, specifications, and other documents work together to communicate material and construction requirements.

Who Should Attend

Construction Estimating Principles & Application is intended for estimators seeking to evaluate their current processes, improve the way they approach projects, and produce more accurate estimates.

Reading Construction Documents is ideal for entry-level architectural or engineering designers, apprentices, tradespeople, project coordinators, estimators, specialty sales representatives, professionals transitioning into construction, or anyone looking for a practical refresher.

Course Requirements: Technology & Participation

Please ensure you meet the following requirements:

  • In Bluebeam Revu, go to Revu > About in the upper-left corner of the interface. You must have Version 2018 or newer for these courses.
  • If the same window says “Unassigned” at the top, your IT department must assign you a license so you can log in and use Bluebeam. Please complete this before class begins.
  • If you need to purchase a Bluebeam license, please use this referral link . Allow several days for delivery and installation before class begins. This is not a last-minute task.
  • Attendance by tablet or phone is not recommended. You should have a mouse with a scroll wheel when attending these classes. Bluebeam uses several right-click shortcuts, and the scroll wheel helps you zoom in and out of documents.

A two-screen computer setup is recommended. This allows you to watch the instructor on one screen while practicing on the other.
